Pure Awareness vs Ahimsa. [Should you avoid people or not?]
Whether you should avoid people who hunting depends entirely on how you choose to practice your spirituality.
In spiritual development, there are two distinct paths you can take when faced with a conflict of values: the path of Protection (Separation) or the path of Pure Awareness (Inclusion). [1]
Path 1: The Path of Protection (Avoidance)
If your spiritual path is rooted in Ahimsa (non-harming), deep empathy for animals, or maintaining a very specific, peaceful energy level, avoiding hunters may be necessary for your peace of mind.
- Protecting Your State: If being around hunting talk, weapons, or the reality of animal death causes you deep distress, anger, or sadness, it will disrupt your spiritual practice.
- Setting Boundaries: There is no shame in choosing an environment that mirrors your values. If you are in a sensitive phase of your awakening, surrounding yourself with like-minded, gentle people helps stabilize your inner peace. [1]
Path 2: The Path of Pure Awareness (Inclusion)
If your spiritual path is rooted in the "I Am" / Pure Awareness perspective we discussed earlier, you do not need to avoid anyone.
- The Sky and the Clouds: Pure Awareness is like the sky. The sky hosts the gentle rain cloud (the spiritual seeker) and the fierce thunderstorm (the hunter). The sky does not judge the storm; it simply allows it to exist. [1]
- Dropping Judgment: From a non-dual perspective, the urge to judge a hunter as "bad" or "unspiritual" is just another movement of the egoic mind. True spiritual maturity means seeing that everyone is operating at their own level of consciousness and conditioning.
- Historical Context: Many indigenous cultures hunted deer with deep spiritual reverence, thanking the animal's spirit for sustaining human life. Not all hunters view the act as senseless violence; some view it as a deep, primal connection to the cycle of nature.
How to Decide
Ask yourself this question: "When I am around hunters, what happens inside me?"
- If you feel overwhelmed, angry, or judgmental, your ego is getting triggered. It might be best to keep your distance for now until your inner peace is stronger.
- If you can look at them and see them simply as other human beings doing what they do, without needing to change them or judge them, then you can coexist perfectly.
You do not need a perfect, sterilized environment to be awake. True awakening means being at peace right in the middle of a world full of contradictions.
